Memo: This is a complex topic. You may need to read a few more sources about the E.U.'s migration/ immigration/ asylum policies (i.e. an introductory example: the U.K.)

From what I know about Europe, they got lots of immigrants & refugees from Africa & Middle East. I am doubting that they can ever take more from Syria right now. There are lots of social problems that haven't ever been solved.

Just know Canada wants to give a big hand out of this crisis.
First of all I think most Canadians do care about humanitarian issues but shouldn't we know how much we can handle.
By the way we got to wait after how the decisions would be made by the EU.

I guess we might start taking certain refugees who have been looking for asylum or their family relatives in Canada.
I definitely agree that we'd better know to what extent we could help them in a better way.

I just want to say why those countries in the Middle East basically haven't really done anything so far so why we, Canada need go first then? I am not saying we shouldn't help but the fact is Canada has regularly taken all types of refugees.
And also the UK actually isn't possible to have more refugees going to the country...I mean it has just been overloaded.

We got to be honest ourselves, human trafficking to Europe & social unrest in Middle East happens at all times. Why do people only care much at this moment, shouldn't we have done that earlier, when our economy was good? Are we having poor planning or being dodgy from the crisis?

The EU members are done by force. I think the U.K. has done its part as it has been taking both immigrants and different types of refugees.
Especially we are now having economic hardship, people who support more intakes need to answer this - Who will pay the bills? How can we pay them?

Based on what I see on the news, I am feeling there will be more refugees running over the borders. I agree there are some do need asylum from the EU/ western countries but not all though. That's hard to say for now.

First thing coming to my mind is that how much do those EU's refugee intake countries know their refugees' background? Are there terrorists hiding in the refugee crowd?

There will certainly be more refugees going to Europe or trying to go abroad possibly to N America.
I don't think the crisis could be easily fixed if looking at how the governments recently handle it.

Should we do it progressively rather than all at once?
I think we definitely need to do background check upon the arrival of refugees for the sake of national security.

I bet most people would sympathize for what the refugees are facing right now. But we at first should give humanitarian aid. So then we will screen their background. Other things like where and how do they settle? It is the question the government has to know before it takes more refugees.

I think we’d better do that step-by-step, on a few stages.
Now, the influx of refugees is going to be unstoppable.
The governments haven’t tackled the main causes.
I agree that we need to plan how the refugees settle down in this wholly different society.

Canada has done its part and has been taking refugees as always but the government seems to process it slow. I guess the screening process takes up the longest time of all.
To me the Middle East countries keep strangely quiet upon the eruption of this refugee crisis.
The U.S. probably knows it's such a black-hole problem and the concern of homeland security is still remained.

From what I know so far Europe has lots of social problems, first of all don't know why they keep getting immigrants and refugees move to their countries even it's hard for them to get settled. Let's say the local young people don't even get fully employed. There's no doubt helping others in need is somehow an obligation but we got to know our ability. Otherwise that's do more harm than good in many ways.

Instead of start taking the refugees, we might try to do some kind of analysis and assessments with them and to see they are rather ok coming to the country. It takes time and extra money but I think it's worth to do that. They wouldn't be regretful after having moved in, and would adopt our culture of life more easily.

I don't think we should wait other minute for doing humanitarian aid, just forget the exact number of refugees that we're taking.
The Canadian government should do our part right away.
Then I somehow agree we could assess their scenarios and get them settled. Keep debating doesn't help at all.

If the European countries are closing the borders now and the refugees once have no way back, they might get stuck in between the situations. Hope there wouldn't be more tragic scenes.
